The School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics (SMAS) at the University of Wollongong (UOW) is within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. SMAS is a dynamic and active mathematical sciences school with an exceptional research record. As part of SMAS the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications (IMIA) carries out world-class research across a broad spectrum of areas in both pure and applied mathematics through its six research centres including the Centre for Geometric Analysis. In the Centre for Geometric Analysis, the research foci are on nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs), especially those related to problems in geometry and noncommutative geometry. Among our more senior members is Professor Neil Trudinger, Fellow of the Royal Society, and Professor Alan Carey, who is (along with Trudinger) a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. Specialisations within our centre include geometric evolution equations, including fully nonlinear flows, flows with boundary and flows with high order; fully nonlinear PDE; analysis in several complex variables; analysis in metric spaces; and minimal hypersurfaces.
This position will carry out teaching, research, governance and community outreach/professional service duties consistent with an Associate Lecturer Level A position. The successful candidate will be a member of the Geometric Analysis Centre and contribute to a new research project on the curvature flow of clusters, with applications to optimal partitioning of space problems and the modelling of merging fire fronts. The position is funded by the award of an ARC DECRA Fellowship to Dr Valentina Wheeler, and preference may be given to candidates who can demonstrate capacity to collaborate with Dr Wheeler on her ARC-funded research. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the most vibrant and successful school in the country. It will also be expected that this position undertake lecturing duties and teach students in our Mathematics degrees and in other disciplines.
