We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to join a new research initiative within The School of Mathematics and Statistics. The Postdoctoral Research Associate in Geometry and Topology will contribute to the Australian Research Council funded research program "Trisections, triangulations and the complexity of manifolds", under the direction of the Chief Investigators, Associate Professor Stephan Tillmann and Dr Jonathan Spreer (University of Sydney) and Professor Hyam Rubinstein (University of Melbourne).
The Research Associate will undertake research in the areas of low dimensional topology and geometric structures, with a focus on connecting geometric structures and topological properties to minimal triangulations of 3-manifolds; development of practical algorithms and new complexity bounds for 3-manifolds and 4-manifolds; construction of computable invariants; and algorithms to recognise fundamental topological properties and structures such as trisections and bundles. In addition, the Research Associate will participate in all aspects of the project; present research results at seminars and conferences; and will, as part of the research team, write scholarly papers for publication in academic journals.
The role will require carrying out scientific research and preparing and presenting scientific results in papers and conferences, co-supervising undergraduate and graduate research students, assisting in the recruitment of research students and continuously working towards attracting new funding. Additionally, you will help to coordinate the research of different researchers.
