The School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics (SMAS) at the University of Wollongong (UOW) is within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. SMAS is a dynamic and active mathematical sciences school with an exceptional research record. As part of SMAS the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications (IMIA) carries out world-class research across a broad spectrum of areas in both pure and applied mathematics through its six research centres: Centre for Financial Mathematics; Centre for Geometric Analysis; Centre for Mathematical Biology and Medicine; Centre for Multidisciplinary Mathematical Modelling, Centre for Noncommutative Analysis, and Centre for Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations.
The successful applicant will work with Professor Aidan Sims and Professor David Pask on research in operator algebras funded by two ARC Discovery grants. The successful applicant will carry out some teaching duties, and may have opportunities to contribute to student supervision at the honours level. The successful applicant will be expected to have broad expertise in the area of functional analysis and operator algebras, with expertise in nuclear dimension and classification techniques for C*-algebras and maps between them. The successful applicant will become a member of IMIA and contribute to its research programs. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the most vibrant and successful schools in the country.
