International Day of Mathematics, March 14

Dear colleagues,

The first International Day of Mathematics (IDM 2020) aroused worldwide enthusiasm with 1,030 celebrations announced in more than 110 countries. Unfortunately, many celebrations were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This led to spontaneous online presentations via videos and recorded talks and domestic celebrations of the IDM in many countries. The Live IDM Global Launch itself attracted 15,000 unique users on March 14, 2020.

The IDM 2020 theme was Mathematics is Everywhere. It is now time to decide the theme of IDM 2021.

A call for proposals of the theme of IDM 2021 is now open with a deadline of 9 May 2020.

Suggestions for a theme, together with a short justification, can either be proposed by filling in the form on the IDM website or by sending an email to idm@mathunion.org.

Helge Holden
