Latest AustMS WIMSIG Awardees
Congratulations to the following awardees of the April 2015 round of the Cheryl E. Praeger Travel Awards and Anne Penfold Street Awards.
Cheryl E. Praeger Travel Awardees:
- Adelle Coster (The University of New South Wales) to attend the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Society for Mathematical Biology in Atlanta, USA
- Hang Wang (The University of Adelaide) to attend a workshop on Non-Commutative Geometry and Spectral Invariants in Montréal, Canada
Anne Penfold Street Awardee:
- Adelle Coster (The University of New South Wales) for caring expenses related to attendance at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Society for Mathematical Biology in Atlanta, USA
The Praeger Awards are for travel funding (open to all female members of the AustMS) and the Street Awards are for caring expenses incurred whilst travelling (open to all members of the AustMS). The next meeting of the Selection Committee will be on October 1.
Congratulations to Prof Kerrie Mengersen
Prof Kerrie Mengersen (QUT) has been awarded an Australian Laureate Fellowship by the Australian Research Council for the project "Bayesian learning for decision making in the big data era".
Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM)
The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) is based in the USA, and has members from all around the world. They publish a bimonthly newsletter (which is a lot fancier than this one). We encourage you to check out the most recent AWM newsletter.
Choose Maths
The Choose Maths program is starting up. This is a joint project between Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) and the BHP Billiton Foundation aimed at increasing the participation rate of young women in STEM disciplines. Read more in the June 2015 edition of AMSI's bulletin: The Update.
Science Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Forum
- A report on the first phase of the SAGE project is available from the website of the Australian Academy of Science.
- The next phase of the project will involve a pilot program based on the Athena SWAN Charter and the SAGE Forum is calling for institutes to take part. Applications are due by July 20.
