Refraction Media has launched Careers with Maths, the latest in its Careers with STEM series. You might like to suggest your local careers centre has some copies.


Code Like a Girl

Code Like a Girl is a project to provide girls and young women with opportunities to learn coding. Activities currently run in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

ACE Forum on Women in Research and Higher Degrees in the Mathematical Sciences

Female participation in the mathematical sciences has always been low, but in the last decade the number and proportion of female honours students has declined even further. Even though the number and proportion of female PhD students is holding up, this is only because of increased participation by female international PhD students. So what is causing this decline in interest from Australian female students in pursuing research and higher degrees in mathematics and statistics? This forum aims to start a discussion in the mathematical community about addressing this issue.

AMSI Winter School 2017

The AMSI Winter School 2017 on Computational Foundations of Data Science is run in collaboration with Queensland University of Technology and is designed for PhD students and researchers in the mathematical sciences and related disciplines.

Female ECRs may be eligible for a Choose Maths travel grant.


SAGE Symposium 2017

The 2017 SAGE Symposium will be held on September 5-6 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Registration is now open.


WIMSIG Conference 2017

Celebration of Women in Australian Mathematical Sciences

If you are considering going to the WIMSIG Conference 2017, then register your interest. This is the first event of its kind in Australia, so we don’t know just how popular the event will be. The expression of interest form also gathers information about potential childcare and lactation space requirements. If there are any other services that may enable your attendance, then please ask Lesley Ward. We want this event to be as inclusive as possible.

Important: We encourage you to book your accommodation early. We’re finding that accommodation costs in Adelaide at the time of our conference are likely to be higher than usual, partly due to a large international conference taking place at the same time. We’ve made a block booking of rooms at the reasonably priced Country Women’s Association: see the conference website for how to reserve. The conference website also lists many other options for accommodation, and we’ll continue to work on this.

We now have seventeen organisers of the 12 Special Sessions — thank you! — and the first few speakers in those sessions have been confirmed.

Carer’s Travel Grant for Academic Women

Capstone Editing is offering a Carer's Travel Grant for Academic Women to provide financial support for academic women who face additional childcare costs when travelling to conduct research or present a paper at a conference. Applications are open from July 1 to May 30 every year.
